KNOWLEDGE
Joia Consulting is a jewelry industry services company founded by Patricia Syvrud, immediate past Executive Director of the World Diamond Council, who has enjoyed a broad and diversified career in the gem and jewelry industries. A GIA graduate gemologist with an MBA from the University of Southern California, her experience ranges from non-profit management and corporate brand and business development, to sales and marketing, fundraising and expert witness work. Her strong organizational, relationship development and budget management skills ensure cost effective project management, allowing an organization to profitably meet its vision, mission and goals.
The company name 'Joia', meaning 'jewel' in Portuguese, was so chosen by Patricia because of her many years living in Brazil, where her career in the jewelry industry began. She has an extensive international network of industry contacts and speaks fluent Portuguese. From the mines to the museums, she literally knows the jewelry business inside and out.
CREDIBILITY
The foundation of Patricia’s skills is more than 25 years’ experience working in the international diamond and jewelry industries. She applied the knowledge and skills gained at the Smithsonian Institution, Gemological Institute of America, and Jewelers Mutual Insurance Company to improve and enhance the credibility and success of the World Diamond Council, the body charged with representing the rough diamond pipeline at the UN-mandated Kimberley Process forum.
Joia's consultant's expertise ranges from non-profit and museum development to responsible sourcing, industry supply chain challenges, television and retail jewelry sales, content creation and expert witness work. Our consultants have worked with Tiffany & Co., the Smithsonian Institution, the Gemological Institute of America (GIA), the San Diego Natural History Museum, Jewelers Mutual Insurance Company QVC and the World Diamond Council, among other organizations.
